HOW TO GET FROM HOI AN TO DA NANG BY BUS
I am going to show you how you can get from Hoi An to Da Nang by bus. We needed to go from Hoi An to Da Nang and weren’t ready to pay 250,000 VND for a cab. While it was a little trick, we eventually figured out how to go from Hoi An to Da Nang by bus.
TAKE THE LOCAL BUS
If you want to go from Hoi An to Da Nang by bus you can take the local bus. The local bus departs from the local bus station at Nguyễn Tất Thành, Phường Cẩm Phổ, Hội An, Quảng Nam every day. If you type “local bus station” into google maps you should be able to find it. We’ve been told that it departs every hour and costs 20,000 VND. Taking the local bus is the cheapest way to reach Hoi An.
GETTING TO THE BUS STATION
The bus station is a little further out. If you stay nearby you can walk and if you are further out you can catch a grab car. Luckily our guest house was located a 15 minutes walk from it.
PAYING FOR YOUR TICKET
The bus ride to Da Nang is 20,000 VND. There’s a display on the bus that says so and my host also confirmed that 20,000 VND is the correct price. If you decide to take this bus, then make sure to have the exact amount ready. I can’t stress the importance of this enough.
HOW (NOT) TO GET RIPPED OFF
The bus driver tried to convince me that the correct price is 30,000 VND. I paid for my ticket with a 50,000 VND bill and he refused to give me the correct amount of change. If you think this was a one-off, read their reviews and think again. It’s sadly common practice to rip people off. The amount itself doesn’t matter to me, it’s the principal – I am simply not one to support such practices. I argued with him for ages but to no avail.
THE RIDE
The bus ride itself was fairly pleasant. In a little under an hour, we were in the center of Da Nang. The bus stops at various locations in Da Nang. I highly recommend mapping it all out and following the bus on google map. That way you make sure to get out at the right stop, closest to your accommodation.
While getting ripped off made me really uncomfortable, I really enjoyed the ride itself. If you need to go from Hoi An to Da Nang by bus then definitely take the local bus. It’s by far the cheapest option.
